Y2K Chrome

Y2K Chrome example frame

Liquid chrome, lens flare and bubble forms, the look of software demos around 1999.

What it does

The turn of the millennium produced a genuinely distinct commercial style: reflective chrome and liquid metal, translucent bubble forms borrowed from the iMac and Aqua, lens flares, thin techno grotesques and a palette of silver, cyan and acid green. It was made with the first generation of accessible 3D and bevel filters. It reads as period-specific now, which makes it useful precisely because most models default to a flatter contemporary look.

The prompt

[Subject] in Y2K chrome style. Liquid reflective chrome surfaces with a mirrored environment, translucent glossy bubble forms with visible specular highlights, anamorphic lens flare across the frame. Thin condensed techno grotesque type with a slight bevel. Palette of silver, cyan and acid green on a dark gradient ground. Early 3D render aesthetic, slightly plastic.

Replace [Subject] with what you are shooting. Everything else is deliberate: the gear, stock and lighting are what push a generator towards this look.
