Push Pin Studios
Historical revival mixed freely with flat colour and drawn lettering, against Swiss neutrality.
What it does
Milton Glaser and Seymour Chwast founded Push Pin in 1954 and spent decades arguing against Swiss objectivity by reviving Victorian, Art Nouveau and comic sources at once. Glaser's Dylan poster takes a Duchamp silhouette and fills it with Art Nouveau hair in flat psychedelic colour. Drawing and lettering are by the same hand, the palette is flat, and the reference is always visible but never straight pastiche.
The prompt
