The Swiss grid kept as a reference and then deliberately violated, letter by letter.

What it does

Wolfgang Weingart taught at Basel from 1968 and spent a decade dismantling the discipline he had been trained in. Letterspacing stretched past comfort, type set on multiple angles in one block, rules interrupting words, stepped halftone bands. Crucially the grid is still there: the tension comes from a visible order being broken, not from an absence of order. Dan Friedman and April Greiman carried it to the United States. Without the underlying structure it is just noise, which is the usual failure.

The prompt

A New Wave typographic composition for [Subject] in the Weingart manner. A visible underlying grid that the type deliberately violates: extreme letterspacing on the headline, words broken across angled baselines, heavy rules cutting through letterforms. Stepped coarse halftone bands as texture. Two spot colours plus black, one deliberately misregistered by two millimetres. Offset on smooth white stock.

Replace [Subject] with what you are shooting. Everything else is deliberate: the gear, stock and lighting are what push a generator towards this look.
