What it does

Vaughan Oliver at 4AD, working with photographer Nigel Grierson as 23 Envelope, made sleeves for Cocteau Twins and Dead Can Dance where the image is deliberately obscured: long exposures, physical distress, glass and fabric between lens and subject, then layered over textured grounds. Type is small, often a custom face, sometimes barely present. The refusal to state the subject is the method.

The prompt

A 4AD-style layered sleeve for [Subject]. Photograph shot through glass and gauze so the subject is present but never fully resolved, long exposure smearing part of the frame, then layered over an organic textured ground of stained paper and botanical matter. Desaturated palette with one bruised colour. Tiny custom type in a corner, almost hidden. Matte board.

Replace [Subject] with what you are shooting. Everything else is deliberate: the gear, stock and lighting are what push a generator towards this look.
