Split Fountain

Split Fountain example frame

Two inks loaded side by side in one fountain, blending across the sheet in a single pass.

What it does

Also called a rainbow roll. Two or more inks are laid in the same ink duct and the rollers blend them where they meet, so a single pass prints a continuous gradient across the whole sheet. The blend shifts as the run proceeds, so no two impressions match exactly, which is why gig posters using it are genuinely variable. It cannot be reproduced by printing a gradient, because the transition happens in the ink film rather than in the artwork.

The prompt

[Subject] screenprinted with a split fountain rainbow roll. Two inks loaded side by side blending into each other continuously across the whole sheet in a single pass, magenta at the left through orange to gold at the right, the transition soft and slightly uneven rather than a clean digital gradient. Flat opaque ink, visible mesh texture, heavy uncoated poster stock.

Replace [Subject] with what you are shooting. Everything else is deliberate: the gear, stock and lighting are what push a generator towards this look.
