A pictogram family built on a strict 45-degree grid so every sign is drawn the same way.

What it does

Otl Aicher's 1972 Munich Olympics identity built every sport pictogram from a shared vocabulary: strokes at 0, 45 and 90 degrees only, uniform stroke weight, a consistent head and joint treatment, so the whole family reads as one system rather than a set of drawings. The colour programme deliberately excluded red and black for political reasons. It is the direct ancestor of every airport sign system since.
