Kelmscott / Arts and Crafts

Kelmscott / Arts and Crafts example frame

Every inch of the page worked: bordered, ornamented and set as a single dark block.

What it does

William Morris founded the Kelmscott Press in 1891 against industrial printing, taking the medieval manuscript as the model. The type is dark and tightly fitted, margins carry engraved foliate borders, and text and ornament are designed as one unit so the double spread reads as a single object. The Kelmscott Chaucer is the summit. It is deliberately anti-efficient, which is the argument.

The prompt

A Kelmscott-style page for [Subject]. Dense dark tightly fitted blackletter-influenced roman type forming one solid text block, surrounded by an engraved foliate border of interlacing vines filling the full margin. A large ornamented initial opening the text. Text and ornament designed as a single unit. Black and red on heavy handmade paper with deckle edge.

Replace [Subject] with what you are shooting. Everything else is deliberate: the gear, stock and lighting are what push a generator towards this look.
