Line Conversion

A photograph thresholded to pure black and white, with no grey at any point.

What it does

A bitmap or line conversion sets a single threshold: everything above becomes white, everything below black. Used for stamps, stencils and one-colour reproduction where no halftone is possible. Everything depends on choosing the threshold and on the contrast of the source, because a poorly lit photograph turns into an unreadable blob. Che Guevara's Guerrillero Heroico as reproduced by Fitzpatrick is the most reproduced example in history.

The prompt

[Subject] as a hard line conversion. A single threshold applied so there is pure black and pure white and no grey or dot anywhere, the threshold chosen so the subject stays instantly readable as a silhouette with a few interior shapes. Printed as one flat ink on coloured stock. Emblematic, high contrast, no texture.

Replace [Subject] with what you are shooting. Everything else is deliberate: the gear, stock and lighting are what push a generator towards this look.
